Sumi-e Koi necklace.

In the ancient calligraphic art of Japan, sumi-e, the artist, with careful and skillful
brush strokes, captures the essence and spirit of his subject matter. The simple elegance
of each sumi-e brushstroke conveys balance, rhythm, and harmony.

Here, the long lines of the Butterfly Koi, or Dragon Koi, are delineated with strokes
of silver. Hand-hammered in places to evoke the curve of the brushtroke and scales of the fish,
each Sumi-e Koi necklace is fabricated by hand. Slight variations may occur.

Koi Symbolism: Historically, the Japanese consider it the most spirited of fish, so full of energy and power that it can fight its way up swift-running streams and cascades. Because of its strength and determination to overcome all obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. It is widely believed that a Koi fish that swims downwards symbolizes the act of overcoming the hardships that come along the way.

According to ancient legend, Koi transformed into dragons when they migrated up waterfalls.

In Chinese, "Carp" is similar sounding to the word "business". It is also homophonic with "profit" or "advantage" whilst "fish" is homophonic to "surplus" or "wealth". Paintings featuring Koi Carp are therefore considered symbolic of good fortune in business or academic life.
