Within the theory on Architecture, Ornament is
usually
defined as something superfluous that is
applied to
Architecture.
This exhibition looks
at the Principles of Architecture
as Ornament.
The sub-theme of the exhibition is the right angle.
During the Italian Renaissance many artists,
including the architects
Brunelleschi and Ghiberti,
as well as both Leonardo da Vinci and
Michelangelo's respective teachers Verrocchio
and Ghirlandaio,
studied goldsmithing prior
to becoming masters of their own craft.
Equally well
known for his sculptures, Cellini called himself
a
goldsmith his entire life.
Wearable sculptural jewellery inspired by
architectural ideas and periods, from the Ancient
Greeks
and Romans, to the Italian Renaissance,
to the present day.
